ARTIST WORKSHOP MISSION

The Artist Workshop is a not-for-profit organization that provides a place for members to learn and practise their artistic skills. Studio time provides the opportunity to socialize with other members. The Workshop also offers opportunities to participate in other artistic related activities such as art instruction courses and art shows and sales.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

 - Attendance at the Wednesday afternoon meetings provides members the time to work on their own projects in the company of fellow members.

 - Informed of upcoming workshops and events.

 - Participation in local exhibitions.

 - Discounts at some art supply stores.

SUPPLIES

We still offer a small selection of papers and other supplies for sale at our usual less-than-retail prices. This will only be available until our present stock is sold since we will no longer have space to store supplies. See "Supplies Available" heading for details.

ART CLASSES

Art classes are presently offered for members only, for beginners, intermediate and advanced artists.

Some past instructors have included renowned artists such as Bill Biddle from Dunnville, Doug Mays from Hamilton, Bonnie Steinberg from Thornhill and Eric Mannella/Michelle Benham from Montreal. Susan Bennett, Cathy Groulx, Sue Goossens and Michelle Snively-Jefferies are some of the local artists we have had as instructors. The Artist Workshop has also been fortunate to have a renowned international artist Calogero Termine from Sicily, Italy teach workshops.

HISTORY OF THE WORKSHOP

Formed in 1944, the “Simcoe Art Club” adopted the name “Artist Workshop 95” when we moved to 95 Pond Street, Simcoe in 1976. This location was to be our home for 45 years until 2021 when the building was declared surplus by the owner, Norfolk County, and listed for sale.

A calendar produced in 1996 to commemorate having been located at 95 Pond Street for 20 years, says that we were an independent group of artists who met monthly and offered Fall and Spring classes with qualified instructors. We also had several art shows a year: a Spring Show; Art in the Park; and a Christmas Show.

The Artist Workshop continues to operate, now meeting at the Port Dover Public Library every Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 until 4:00.
